Monique’s Story

I conduct cognitive, psychological, personality and academic evaluations and work with other mental health professionals at Modern Psychiatry to deliver assistance to children, adolescents, adults and their families. My clients include youngsters who are having difficulty in school paying attention or making friends; or adults who are challenged with focus and the working memory required to remember or complete tasks, compromising their job function. All these issues can impact daily living skills and impede the ability to fit in.

I’ve worked in the mental health field for 20 years, counseling adults and children and adolescents. I’ve worked as a high school counselor and performed mobile response for clients in crisis. My career path has been the natural progression of my life growing up. “I was always the fixer who was empathetic, listened well and helped others with problems if they were willing to share. Plus, I’m calm and non-judgmental. It was a gift I wanted to explore.”

Now, the exploration continues. I want to go on to earn my Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) and Licensed Practicing Counselor (LPC) certifications. I’m even more encouraged working here at Modern Psychiatry. “The practice helps a lot of people, and I'm happy to be a part of it.”

And the rewards of supporting others continues. Just recently, a student who needed to talk came into my office and said, “I’m glad you’re here today.” Whether you’re a student or an adult, inevitably you make mistakes. “It doesn't mean that you shouldn't keep trying. No one’s perfect. When you know better, you do better. You can always make improvement.”
