Megan’s Story

As a clinical supervisor at Modern Psychiatry, I’ve been instrumental in the founding of the practice’s neuropsychology department.

At Modern Psychiatry, we do neuropsychological testing, which is a tool that allows me insight into an individuals’ brain function and guides me in my ability to provide recommendations to improve an individual’s daily functioning. I have specifically chosen to focus my training on neurodevelopmental diagnoses, such as autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.

Understanding brain-based differences and having the ability to explain how brain functions impact an individual’s level of functioning in a supportive environment is rewarding. Using the term “brain difference” encourages our patients to depersonalize the symptoms and focus on strategies to overcome the diagnostic label. Providing a different perspective, sets up a platform for patients and their families to avoid feeling like they have a problem, but rather that they are on a road to solutions.

“My desire to help and encourage others to overcome daily challenges motivated me to pursue a career as a therapist. I have continued to enhance my skill set and growth in the field. Recently, I graduated with my doctorate in clinical psychology in an effort to share my understanding of brain function and offer additional solutions beyond traditional talk therapy to my patients.”

There aren’t a lot of mental health practices that can provide multidisciplinary services all under one umbrella. “I’m proud to be here [at Modern Psychiatry] helping patients work through their concerns in therapy and referring to the various alternative treatment options to foster a collaborative treatment team approach that is full of knowledge, experience, and empathy.”
