Lana’s Story

People want to function and enjoy everyday life. I’ve seen this throughout my career and in my work at Modern Psychiatry as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). They want to be happy, an aspiration that has become increasingly difficult in this day and age. But I’m on a mission. Improving one person’s day or helping them better adapt to their struggles ... “That’s what keeps me going.” And it’s the reason I sought out a career in mental health.

At Modern Psychiatry, I work with patients, providing psychotherapy, developing treatment plans, and overseeing their medication management. But for me, being an APN is not just about prescribing medications.

People want to be happy and to enjoy their children and lives. They want to contribute to society and find meaningful employment and social connections. I recognize the importance of communication and have developed an ability to help people who don’t like to talk about themselves open up. Maintaining an open stream of communication with my patients is important to me.

“I look at mental health holistically. My patients and I discuss everything including diet, health, exercise, sleep, hygiene, therapy, and medications.” I build trust and openness, especially because I explain that the more they tell me, the more I can help them by understanding their whole situation.

One interesting fact to help others get to know me better: I am fluent in Russian.
